Thesis Statement
The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand by Gavrilo Princip was the key event that led to World War I, one of the major turning points in history. Despite existing underlying factors that contributed to the war, the critical, catalytic single event was Princip's assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Without it, it is unlikely that events would have unfolded as they did leading to World War I and without this war history would not have happened they way it did in the 20th century. World War I profoundly changed the geo-political history (and everything that that affects, including economic and social changes) of the world. Yet, Gavrilo Princip remains an obscure figure, rarely if ever mentioned as a major history-maker of the 20th century.
